FADE IN: Comedy Writing Workshop with Wissam Kamal

Being funny is inside all of us. The goal of this comedy writing workshop is to help you find the funny inside of you. FADE IN: like to call this a “non-class class” because writing exercises and examples will be used to guide you, rather than teach you how to be funny. No prior experience in writing or in comedy is required; actually, the ideal participants just have that comedic passion.

Basics of different genres and writing will be covered as well as the essential concept behind comedy: embracing failure. Get ready to have fun and laugh (duh) and, make everyone around you do the same.

Session 1
– Comedy history and the heroes of comedy
– Stand-up comedy technique: writing and performance
– Workshop-based practice

Session 2:
– Film, story and scripted comedy
– YouTube web content
– Workshop-based practical exercises

Needed from participants:
– Notebook and pen
– Fun attitude
– Openness to be brave and hilarious!
