Spinal Integration Workshop: The Upper Back and Shoulders

Saturday, Jan 23, 2016
10:00am -> 11:30am
Hamsa Yoga Space

The upper back acts as a support for the head – the heaviest part of the body – and allows flexibility of movement for the arms. It is often very stiff and tense, due to accumulated bad posture over the years. In this workshop, we will study it anatomically, from core muscles to vertebrae structure. We will also examine the positioning of the upper back as part of the whole back bone in various yoga poses, including exercises to open this part of the body, following a safe alignment for a healthy spinal column.

Sarah Warde
Sarah first began practicing yoga 10 years ago, with Jouhaina Dib in Beirut. In 2010, after 10 years of working in the theatre and cinema industry, she enrolled in a four-year hatha-yoga teacher training with Patrick Tomatis at the Ecole Française de Yoga in Paris. During her training, Sarah gave regular classes and workshops in various studios (Yoga Village, BeYoga, Yoga&Zen, Yoga Time). In late 2014, she returned to Beirut where she founded Hamsa Yoga Space. Sarah emphasizes attention to the breath, alignment and physical sensations. Her classes include physical postures (asana), relaxation, breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditation. She follows the eight limbs of yoga (ashtanga) as a progressive tool towards inner peace and freedom. She’s a member of the Federation Nationale des Enseignants de Yoga (France).
Other teachers Sarah met include: Donna Farhi, Jacques Castermane, Kaustub Desikachar, Kia Naddermier, Jacqui Brookes, Angelika Grohmann.
