SOS ART Liban 2016 Edition

SOS ART Liban is a group art show and art festival of creative expressions for peace and justice.

The free exhibition of 112 participating artists will take place at UNESCO Palace.

Schedule:

I. Friday February 19

6-9 pm Opening of the Art exhibit (with participation of 112 visual artists) II. Saturday February 20

10-11am “Poems on Peace and Justice”, poetry reading (in arabic and french) facilitated by Roula Zoubiane with the poets: Issam Assaf, Rita Bassil, Antoine Boulad, Chawki Bazih, Michel Cassir, Iskandar Habache, Nada Heleiwa, Fawzi Yammine.

11:15-12:30 “Poverty in Lebanon”, panel discussion (in arabic) facilitated by Makram Ouaiss with panelists Kamal Hamdane, Boutros Labaki, Adib Nehme.
The panel will address statistical data of poverty in Lebanon, cost of living and buying power, the State’s politics (proposed and implemented solutions, deficiencies), role of private and non profit organizations. It will be followed by Q and A.

12:30-1:30pm Lunch break (light lunch will be provided)

1:30-3pm “Ahlam Moallaka”, movie directed by Jean Chamoun and May Masri, followed by a discussion facilitated by Naja Al Achkar, in presence of Widad Helwany, actress, and May Masri.

The movie speaks of the Lebanese civil war and of the memories and dreams of the Lebanese people through interviewed individuals. The session is organized by “Nadi Lekol Nas”

3:15-4pm “Streets”, semi-structured performance by the troup Cirquenciel, combining improvisation, dance, and circus.

“Lebanon’s streets not welcoming our performances, we have decided instead to bring the street to the theatre. Our performance aims at touching, entertaining, opening new horizons thanks to movement, dance and juggling.”

4:15-4:45pm “Tell Us, Oh Grandpa”, stories (in arabic) told by Khaled El Naanaa.

Dialogue in which the grandfather tells his grandchildren his story with the occupation, with the displacement, how he left his native land, and his longing for the city he loves and which still occupies his imagination. A story that sums up the tragedy of exile… The grandfather is now dead and to you his story.

5-5:30 pm “The Carnival of the Animals”, classical and contemporary dance performance, choreography and direction May Chelhot
Performance for children and adults, inspired by Camille Saint Saens, and based on the story of a little girl who asks her mother for a pet animal as a birthday gift. She accepts, however, to part with it in order to let it free.

5:45-7pm “War Stories”, improvised theatre (in arabic), directed par “Laban” and organized by “Fighters For Peace”, association of Lebanese ex combatants.
Young actors trained in improvised theatre reenact scenes from the history of the Lebanese cil war as remembered by members of the audience.

III. Thursday February 25

6-7:30pm Screening of the play “Shebaik Lebaik” performed by Migrant Domestic Workers and directed by Zeina Daccache. The screening will be followed by a discussion with some actors of the play and Zeina Daccahe.
