“China’s Foreign Relations: Theories & Approaches” by Professor Yang Jiemian
President Emeritus, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies

Where do contemporary Chinese diplomatic approaches and practices derive from, and what are the theoretical and historical sources behind its “independent foreign policy of peace”? And how to understand China’s current foreign policy strategy in the light of its founding theories? To what extent is China providing an alternative to the world superpowers conception of a new kind of world order?
In its period of rapid rising and dramatic transformation, what are the challenges China is confronting in the application of these approaches and principles to complicated realities, such as in the Middle East?
