Known for being a Pan-Arab voice of the left-wing, Lebanese newspaper Assafir announced yesterday that it would publish its last edition on March 31, 2016, 41 years after its start.

Assafir also announced the end of their online platform, meaning that it would be a total shutdown of all services, both English and Arabic. This comes not too long after the shutdown of Al Akhbar’s English-language website, which ended in March of 2015.

Founded in 1974, the newspaper survived the tumultuous years of the Lebanese Civil War led by Chief Editor Talal Salman who himself survived an assassination attempt in 1984.
