‘The Civic Role of Arab Universities’ Conference at AUB

It is with great pleasure that AUB’s Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs and the Lebanese Association for Educational Studies (LAES) invite you to a conference entitled “The Civic Role of Arab Universities”

Location: Issam Fares Institute

The conference aims at examining what the Arab universities are providing in terms of civic climate and civic provisions. Conventionally, the civic role is embodied by a set of values, knowledge, skills and general attitudes that are brought together under titles like democracy, citizenship, culture of law, teaching humanities and social sciences, community service, civic engagement and pedagogy of inquiry and deliberation. This role could be observed in the university discourse, the activities, the programs, the courses, and the governance. The emergence of the “Arab Spring” and the dramatic events that followed were the reason for initiating the project on the Civic Role of Universities.

The conference will be both in English and Arabic with simultaneous interpretation.
