Cirque Du Soleil Is Back In Beirut, Better Than Ever

Cirque du Soleil, the world’s most renowned circus, will be bringing one of their most celebrated shows to Beirut from the 7th to the 11th of September in six enchanting performances. The must-see performance of Varekai will be performed at Forum de Beyrouth.

Varekai tells a captivating story of the Greek myth of Icarus set in an extraordinary world called Varekai, magically created by Cirque du Soleil.

Icarus is a man whose father gave him wings and told him not to fly too close to the sun (representing arrogance) or too close to the sea (representing submissiveness), but to follow his path of flight. Icarus instead soared into the sky, and in the process flew too close to the sun, melting his wings. He then fell into the sea, which is now named after him, the Icarian Sea.

Varekai takes place after Icarus’ fall from the sky and it answers the question how does one get back on one’s feet after they fall from grace?

Here is our favorite thing about Cirque du Soleil: they don’t use (or rather, abuse) animals in any of their performances. They are a cruelty-free circus and a spectacularly artistic one.
