Urban Refugee Access to Quality Education in Lebanon and Around the World:
‘Preliminary Findings from a Teachers College Study’ by Elizabeth Buckner

Home to the highest number of refugees per capita in the world and yet, maintaining an official policy of no camps, the influx of Syrian refugees in Lebanon exemplifies the global trend of urban refugees. In Lebanon, government and organizations are trying to meet educational needs of refugees in an environment of frequent policy reforms. You are invited to participate in an interactive discussion on the preliminary findings from a Teachers College study on urban refugees worldwide, and findings from the team’s case study of urban refugees’ access to quality schooling in Lebanon. The meeting aims to solicit feedback and provide input to deliverables and recommendations.

Location: Issam Fares Institute – Conference room

Elizabeth Buckner is an Affiliated Scholar at AUB’s Issam Fares Institute and a Visiting Assistant Professor of International Comparative Education and Middle East Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is part of a team of researchers who have been investigating urban refugees’ access to quality education since September 2015.
