The Coolest Thing Happening Tomorrow: A Meteor Shower In Lebanon

Aside from all the parties, festivals, and concerts happening this summer – there’s one more unexpected (and very cool) thing happening tomorrow August 12th. The Perseid meteor shower will be at its peak between August 9 and August 13.

The cool people over at Red Bull Lebanon have planned out the perfect opportunity for you to enjoy the shooting stars.

Here are some cool facts about the Perseid shower, and you can learn more by checking the #MySummerEdition hashtag on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

1.You don’t need fancy equipment to watch the shower.

You won’t need binoculars, a telescope, or any kind of equipment, just gather a group of friends and get out of town to a space with clear skies. Remember that stargazing is a waiting game, it takes about 30 minutes for the eyes to adjust to the dark and the longer the wait the better you’ll see. Don’t forget to bring something comfortable to sit on, some snacks, and lots of bug spray, the rest is about chillaxing and looking up for the celestial show.

2. Perseids are fast and furious.

Perseid meteors strike the atmosphere at 140,000 mph while compressing and heating up the air in front of it, which results in the meteor heating up and shattering in a blink of an eye.

3. You’re in for a treat.

The Perseid shower is expected to have an outburst that could yield as many as 50 meteors per hour!

4. There is an organized viewing available.

Keep an eye on #MySummerEdition for more details on where and when you can join the Red Bull Lebanon team for a special night of star-gazing and fun!

Worried you’re going to miss it? No problem – we’ll be posting photos of the meteor shower in the days following.
