Colorful Uruguayan and Latin-American Repertoire by the international renowned organist Cristina Garcia Banegas

Cristina Garcia Banegas holds the Chair of Organ Studies at the University School of Music in Uruguay. In 1987, she created the Ensemble Vocal e Instrumental De Profundis, a visionary project that has studied and recreated Latin American Baroque music for almost 25 years. In 1988 she founded the International Organ Festival of Uruguay, which has brought many international renowned musicians to Uruguay. She has conducted the Children’s Choir Selection of Colegio Inglés since 1989,, the children’s choir Los Niños de tu Ciudad (Children of your City, a program supported by the Municipality of Montevideo) since 2008, and the DeProfunditos children’s choir since 2015.

She began her musical studies with Renée Bonnet and Renée Pietrafesa in Uruguay and continued her development with Lionel Rogg at the Geneva Conservatory, obtaining the Premier Prix de Virtuosité; later on she was awarded the Premier Prix d’ Excellence avec Félicitations du Jury at the Rueil Malmaison Conservatory in Paris, as a student of Marie-Claire Alain.

She has performed in almost all Latin American and European countries, as well as in the USA, Russia and Japan. She has been selected to join the juries of internationally renowned organ contests. She has recorded 16 CDs of Johann Sebastian Bach’s organ works and she has made it her life’s ambition to record of his complete organ works, as well as many pieces from the Spanish and Latin American Baroque body of work, performed on historical organs in Europe and Latin America. Her recordings were produced in Switzerland, France, Norway, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Uruguay. Many of them have garnered remarkable recognition and international awards including the Grand Prix de l’Académie Française du Disque, Palmàres des Palmàres, Diapasón 5, MUST, and Deutsche Schallplatten Preis.
