From Time to Time, Book Launch by Samir Khalaf at AUB

The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at AUB cordially invites you to a book launch
From Time to Time, by Samir Khalaf
Professor of Sociology, American University of Beirut

In this collection of Essays, written over the span of 40 years, efforts are made to suspend the imposing strictures of my scientific and scholarly discipline which often call upon us to be rigorous and dispassionate in our exploration of societal problems. By freeing myself from such exacting demands, I could write more engagingly and, hence, in more vivid and graphic prose. Though the collection is discursive, it is, hopefully, more intuitive and readable. At the least, it is less taxing to the sensibilities of the ordinary reader – Samir Khalaf.

Samir Khalaf is a Professor of Sociology at the American University of Beirut. He has held academic appointments at Princeton, Harvard, MIT, and New York University. Among his books are Protestant Missionaries in the Levant, Lebanon Adrift, Sexuality in the Arab World (with John Gagnon), The Heart of Beirut, Civil and Uncivil Violence in Lebanon, Cultural Resistance and Lebanon’s Predicament. He has been a recipient of several international fellowships and research awards, a trustee of numerous foundations, and serves on the editorial boards of a score of international journals and publications.
