2011-2012 Home Workspace Program, with Resident Artist Emily Jacir

Ashkal Alwan are pleased to launch their first open call for applications for the 2011-2012 Home Workspace Program, with Resident Artist Emily Jacir.

Geared towards developing an interdisciplinary approach to arts education, the Home Workspace Program targets emerging artists and cultural practitioners who want to develop their skills and practice in a critically supportive environment in Beirut.

The Home Workspace Program is an 11-month, post-academic, independent program with 10-15 participants per year from Lebanon and around the world. The curriculum consists of workshops and seminars with the resident artist/professor and invited guests. Conceived as part-incubator, part-production space, the program provides a framework for research and production for participants, with space and resources in a facility that includes studios, audiovisual editing suites, performance and exhibition spaces, and a multimedia library.

Special Formula:– Open Call for Applications: Deadline March 5, 2011.
– Artists working in any visual arts medium, including video, film, performance, sound, installation, photography, painting and sculpture.
– Cultural practitioners including writers, curators, thinkers, critics and academics.
– Applicants who have completed undergraduate or graduate arts, arts-related or cultural studies, formal academic training or have equivalent experience.
– Applications from Lebanon, the Arab region and the world are all welcome; Ashkal Alwan will make visa arrangements when necessary for selected applicants .

Special Feature:– Tuition is free to all applicants selected to the Home Workspace Program.
– All participants will be granted a production stipend equivalent to $3000 with which to develop their project(s).
