The Center For Advanced Mathematical Sciences invites you to two lectures entitled , A short tutorial on Instabilities During Thin Film Epitaxial Growth, by Michel E. Jabbour, Department of Mathematics, University of Kentucky, USA.

This will be followed by a discussion of some limitations of the BCF framework, particularly its inability to capture the experimentally observed coexistence of bunching and meandering on metallic surfaces with minimal kinetic pathways.

Jabbour will then present various remedies that have been proposed to reconcile experimental findings with theoretical predictions, with emphasis on a thermodynamically consistent generalization of the BCF model that captures the simultaneous occurrence of bunching and meandering without recourse to extrinsic mechanisms.
