Irtijal 2011 – Day 2

Initiated in 2001, Irtijal is so far the only festival in Lebanon devoted to experimental music, free jazz, free improvisation, contemporary and other new and innovative forms of music making.


– Christian Wallumrød Solo:
° Christian Wallumrød : piano
Christian Wallumrød has worked as a musician and composer since 1992, and he is considered one of the most prominent musicians of the younger Norwegian generation.


– Bauer/Lehn/Turner (DE / UK)
° Johannes Bauer : trombone
The elder member of the trombone -bonny Bauer family, Johannes Bauer is the one with the longest discography and perhaps the highest profile on the free jazz scene.
° Thomas Lehn : analogue synthesizer
Born in Germany in 1958, Thomas Lehn is an interpreting pianist he has been playing concerts since 1982 – performing both contemporary new music including numerous first performances and traditional composed music of the classical and romantical period. In 1989 he initiated the chamber ensemble Trio Dario and four years later the Mengano Quartett, performing compositions of the contemporary avant-garde, in particular numerous first performances of commissioned works.
° Roger Turner : drums
Roger Turner born in Whitstable in 1946, Roger is an English jazz percussionist. He plays the drumset, drums, and various percussion, and was brought up into the jazz and visual art cultures inhabited by his older brothers, playing drums from childhood in informal jazz contexts.


– Grydeland / Zach (NO)
° Ivar Grydeland : guitar,banjo
Born in Trondheim, Grydeland Started his professional career as musician and composer in 1999. His activity ranges from concerts, tours and CD releases with regular groups (Huntsville and Dans les Arbres in particular) and ad hoc constellations.
° Ingar Zach : percussion
Ingar Zach is known for the wide range of sounds in his instrument. He plays his percussion in a very dynamic, but still energetic way. He uses homemade percussion, gongs and devises like; propellers, bows, sruti-box and tabla machine as parts of his extended drumkit. He is dedicated to improvised/contemporary music and is regularly touring and recording with his fixed ensembles, but also in different ad-hoc projects in Europe, Canada and the USA.
