Hoda Tawakol: Behind the Window

Hoda Tawakol is an emerging French-Egyptian artist. Her work involves the viewer in a sensual encounter with images and materials – abstract composition in stretched lycra fabric, photographs printed on fabric and sewn with loose threads, and a kind of mask or headdress made of hair. She manipulates different colors, textures, and figures in her collages, photographs, and sculptures creating works that are visually surprising, contorting materials in unexpected ways. The viewer gets a sense of surfaces of tension and vulnerability, materials stretched to their boundaries, and portraits punctured and embroidered. This show will be her debut solo show with Sfeir-Semler Gallery.
