The National Council for Scientific Research, Beirut Municipality, AUB and the University of Saint Joseph invite you to a seminar and a round table discussion on air quality in Beirut.
The seminar will present the implications of elevated levels of air pollution on health and economy. A round table discussion with governmental and nongovernmental representatives will follow to look together for possible venues to reduce public risks.
The main objectives of the seminar are to (i) present the recent data on air pollution in Beirut that was collected by the air quality USJ and AUB team working under the patronage of CNRS, (ii) learn more about the epidemiological studies conducted in Lebanon and work towards initiating concurrent epidemiological studies related to risk areas for exposure, (iii) identify the methods of estimating the economic impact of the air pollution and (v) explore with government policy makers and agencies possible venues to act in ways that reduce the actual risks to public health from air pollution, while appropriately addressing public attitudes and concerns: French and Turkish experiences.
