(6:30) There Was a Bird on the Tree:
Day is based on the book of the nursery rhymes collection where Najla Jreissati Khoury gathered over 400 rhymes in a period of 30 years from all over Lebanon. It is the story of a Lebanese grandmother who plants Onboz seeds and with each seed she grows a nursery rhyme. It is her story and the story of so many Lebanese grandmothers that collect memories from our oral tradition that sometimes fly with clouds or continue with the younger ones or maybe are put in a book. A poetic piece full of magical tender moments where rhymes become flowers, leaves on trees, written in dust on windows, drawn on blackboards…

Rhymes that evoke our childhood, our street games, our teasing skits, our tongue twisters, our ways of loving. The audience becomes a player.

(8:30) Seven + 7:
Night is based on the book “Sab3a w 7” of a modern folktale using the old oral tradition of storytelling or Hakawati. It is the story of a moon that eats a fish and is broken in two pieces, one piece falls in a garden and one piece in a shop. One is planted and gives 7 moonflowers and one is cut and sold as 7 moon necklaces. Comes our hero the frog that will do everything to save the stolen moon. This performance will take place at night using a variety of shadow puppet techniques transporting the viewer into another time and place of a dream like world where from beginning to end you will journey thru the imagination and the senses.
