The Social Welfare Institutions (Dar Al Aytam Al Islamiya)

The Social Welfare Institutions (SWI) in Lebanon started in 1917 as a small orphanage concerned with the conditions of orphans distressed by World War I. As years passed by, the orphanage grew and was in 1932 named Dar Al Aytam Al Islamiya. 40 years later and after introducing and providing services to different categories such as abandoned children and mentally retarded, the orphanage name in 1972 was changed to the “Social Welfare Institutions”.
