Founded in 2008 and launched during the Damascus Cultural capital of the Arab world 2008 activities, the Damascus Festival Chamber Players aims at promoting the collaborative work between Arab instrumentalists and composers through the commissioning of new works written especially for the ensemble by various Arab composers. It aims at promoting Arab contemporary music both locally and internationally through performances, recordings and master-classes. The project was initiated by the Syria Trust for Development, and now enjoys an independent status. The 2010-2011 season has been generously supported by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC).
