Meet The Arab Female Filmmakers Who Received The AFAC-Netflix Fund For Creative Equity

Five female Arab filmmakers and producers will finally get the opportunity to bring their projects to life and claim their well-deserved seats in the entertainment industry.

Thanks to Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity, in partnership with The Arab Fund For Arts and Culture (AFAC), a $250,000 one-off grant was allocated to these creators to provide them substantial support in their work.

This initiative is the first of its kind in the Middle East supporting and strengthening women’s role in Arab cinema.

Here are the five directors and producers who will be bringing their fiction and non-fiction projects to the screen:

Asmae El Moudir from Morocco shortlisted for ‘The Mother of All Lies’ non-fictional movie

Sarra Abidi from Tunisia shortlisted for her fiction feature ‘My Name Is Clara’

Diala Kachmar, Jana Wehbe, and Tania Khoury from Lebanon, all spearheading three exciting fiction films – ‘From The Other Shore’ which features two friends roaming the streets of Beirut, ‘The Day Vladimir Died’ revolving around a character who attends daily funerals, and ‘Manity’ that follows three people on their bird hunting trip.
