Ikea Removes Women from Saudi Catalogue

Ikea is under fire for deleting women from their furniture catalogue (the Saudi version.)

Instead of appearing as a family unit, the made-for-Saudi pictures show only men and children, with all the women airbrushed out. The Swedish brand company expressed regret over their decision, stating “We should have reacted and realized that excluding women from the Saudi Arabian version of the catalogue is in conflict with the IKEA Group values.”

Its worth mentioning that the women were all pretty modest looking. Check out the before and after photos for yourself here and pass your own judgement.

I think it’s pretty sad that a country with so scientifically advanced a state is so behind on social modernity. It’s not exactly surprising though.
