Beirut Jazz Festival 2013 Postponed

The Beirut Jazz Festival, which was scheduled to happen this weekend from September 5 to September 6, has been postponed “due to the current situation,” a spokesperson for the festival told Beirut.com on Tuesday.

This comes after a series of cancellations and postponements of both concert performances and festivals this summer, all linked to security concerns about spillover violence from the neighboring war in Syria.

Members of the Turkish band, Taksim Trio, announced on August 21, that they are cancelling their performance on September 19 at AUB as part of the Beirut and Beyond International Music Festival, fearing the security situation in the country.

The performance troupe behind Rock the Ballet announced on August 13, it was cancelling its performance at the Beirut Souks for the same reason.

In June, Renee Fleming canceled her appearance as the headlining act in the Baalbeck International Festival, blaming “deteriorating security conditions.”

Furthermore, festival organizers announced in late June that the famed concert series at Baalbeck would relocate to #WTF
