Your Definitive Guide to Summer Dresses This Season

It’s that time of the year where your beloved skinny jeans start to lose their appeal in favor of lighter, breezier garments. And what’s better than slipping into a cool dress to beat the heat in style?

We’re here to help you brush up on your dress choices as you gear up for another sultry summer.

Slip-and-Go

With its spaghetti straps and lingerie-like feel, this 90s-inspired slip dress is making a huge comeback on the fashion map. The slinky dress is your best bet for laid back elegance. I chose to pair it with retro round sunglasses and a free-cut leather cross bag to keep the vintage spirit alive, and added chunky platform sandals to complete the look. But you can definitely also opt for flats when styling your day-to-day outfit, and maybe throw in a pendant for a more sophisticated twist.

Funky Florals

After witnessing a lot of plaids and patchwork over the past two seasons, florals are back in full bloom this summer. For this outfit, I picked a short dress covered in large floral prints and chose to accessorize it with tassel earrings which also make up a major Spring/Summer 2016 accessory trend. Add a simple cross bag and a pair of black sandals and you’re in for a sharp summery look. You may also replace sandals with boots on cooler summer days.

Boho Uplift

Bohemian influences are yet another highlight of the season, as seen on the runways of Gucci and Roberto Cavalli among others. Maxi and floaty or short and flow-y, boho chic dresses are the perfect blend of style and comfort. I ventured into critical mixed pattern ground with this look, mixing and matching the dress’s meticulous wave-like print with eye-catching pink florals, and added a fringed backpack to seal the deal. But you can surely go for a plain, less sophisticated pair of shoes if you prefer to stay on the safe side.

Playful Pinafores

Let me start by explaining the name of this garment. Picture this, if a dress and a pair of overalls were to breed, then their offspring would most definitely be the pinafore dress (you can still picture pinafores as dress-like overalls to make your life a tiny bit easier). I picked a basic grey T-shirt to be worn under my pinafores of choice and carried on the slightly grungy vibe by introducing white sneakers and a black leather backpack. Simple yet edgy!
