Rola Sleiman Becomes First Female Reverend In Arab World

In February of 2017, Rola Sleiman made history when she became the first female to be officially ordained pastor at the church she’s attended her whole life in Tripoli.

Having been the interim minister for years at Tripoli’s National Evangelist Presbyterian Church, Sleiman was the logical choice for pastor when it came time to choose. The vote to ordain her passed in the Synod at 23 to 1.

Sleiman spoke to Al Jazeera saying, “The title hasn’t added to anything I wasn’t already doing. On the other hand, I feel there are so many more eyes on me, like people are waiting either for me to succeed or fail.”

This is a great reminder that though things may be changing slowly, they are indeed changing in all parts of the world and in every way. Congratulations to Rev. Sleiman and her congregation.
