Ever wondered about the whereabouts of your fellow Lebanese around the globe? We always hear and read about the huge numbers of Lebanese diaspora, but the chance to engage with them never really presented itself.

Well now, Lebanon Without Borders got you covered!

Lebanon without borders is an initiative founded by documentary filmmaker Glen Kalem. The project’s aim is to accumulate raw data by engaging Lebanese in migration to partake in creating a “Lebepedia”. This online database will contain content that will offer never-before-seen information and ties to Lebanese families around the world in an unprecedented setup and structure.

In an interview with Beirut.com, Mr. Kalem expressed his passion and inspiration behind Lebanon Without Borders, “This project was born from the idea that Lebanese people have have no borders and everywhere they go they feel a connection to their homeland.”

“As a first generation Lebanese person born in Australia I have also been fascinated by the footprint of our great country. Travelling around the world I met with extraordinary Lebanese with their tales of joy and heart ache and I always knew in my soul I would make good of these stories.”

Mr. Kalem also noted that, “This project has been in the planning for over 8 years but has recently been commissioned to begin. Our website is still in development phase and we are seeking collaboration from our worldwide community. A project site will be launched in the coming weeks.”

Anyone can register to be part of the project through the website, which is underway and will be announced soon. The process of admission is simple; you are required to fill out an academic questionnaire and follow a guideline that enables your profile to be built on the database. This profile will enable you to showcase your own input and even use your own camera to become the narrator or filmmaker in your own story.

This website won’t be just any database that lists Lebanese individuals living abroad, the objective of this initiative is to acquire this type of information in creative means without undermining each person’s original story and narrative style.

Lebanon without borders is partnered with the University of Western Sydney in Australia and our very own Lebanese American University in Beirut to be able to support and house such a significant project.

We don’t know about you, but we’re extremely excited for this project. You never know, you might find and meet your long lost cousin!
