Ziad Doueiri, the director of “West Beirut” and “The Attack” is back again in his fourth feature movie: “The Insult”.
The movie is about a clash that occurs between a Lebanese Christian man and a Palestinian refugee because of, you guessed it, an insult. The drama gets more intense as the fight becomes a national concern later on in the movie.
The power of the movie is that it has a lot of important sub-messages about media, lawyers, communication, war, and love, by showing you what really happens behind the scenes away from the public and how each opposing person is handling the situation.
The movie ending is what really gave me goosebumps and made me stay glued to my seat for the whole credits. Although I really loved the movie, I have some comments on it.
In some cases, I found people are taking actions and talking in a way they wouldn’t in real life, especially in Lebanon. Also, some scenes start and end in a weird and disconnected way, in addition to that, there’s a lot of continuity errors that were distracting.
Nevertheless, the movie is definitely one of the best Lebanese movies that I’ve watched this year, if not the best – and one of the best in the history of Lebanese movies.
My Rating: 8/10
