Growing up in Lebanon exposed you to a lot of different cultures because of the eclectic group of people within the country. But the true source of culture for us was the dubbed telenovelas you would see on TV all the time, so take a trip down memory lane with us and revisit these 5 Latin telenovelas.
1. Rosalinda
Starring Thalia, Rosalinda was a Mexican show about Rosalinda’s fall into a mental institution after she meets Fernando, a piano player at a restaurant where she sells flowers, falls in love with him, has a child with him, and is then sabotaged by his mother. It’s wild.
2. Maria Mercedes
This Mexican show was as much about the plot as it was about Maria Mercedes’ hair. The story of a destitute woman taking care of her siblings by selling lottery tickets on the street. She then marries a rich man who wants to spite his aunt and has to live with his family in his house after his death and falls in love with his cousin whose wife was murdered on their wedding day. What even?
3. Terra Nostra AKA Guiliana
This Brazilian period show was a love story about Guiliana and Matteo, who fall in love on a ship immigrating from Italy to work in Brazil and have a child together. She then is trapped in a love triangle between Matteo and Mark Anthony, the son of the owner of the farm she works on. They were also scared of Ardé Shawké for some reason.
4. O Clone AKA Jad
This Brazilian telenovela tells the love story of Jad and Lucas, a muslim girl who had to move to Morocco for some reason and then is forced to marry Said and have a child with him and then forced to meet Lucas again. They just used to make out a lot and then she would run back home to her child and teach her to dance for some reason. There was also a character called “El mar2a el Lahloube” who played with fire in a circus??? Idk.
5. Kassandra
This Venezuelan telenovela about a gypsy woman from the circus who marries into a rich family, but her husband dies and she is blamed for his murder by his twin brother who has taken over his identity and is fooling her into thinking that he is her husband.
