So you went wild on one fateful Mar Mikhael night and you woke up the next day with mysterious bruises and no identity card (hawiyye) to be found. No worries, we know the exact steps you need to take to replace it.
1. Reporting it missing.
This is by far the most critical step in the process as the Lebanese law is very unforgiving of people walking around without IDs. You must report your ID missing/stolen within 24 hours or risk the investigation process becoming much more grueling. You must file this report at the police station nearest to the location where you lost it.
2. Gathering the paperwork.
These are the documents you’ll need in order to create a replacement ID card:
– The police report from step one.
– ID photos (notarized).
– Individual Civil Registry Extract (إخراج قيد فردي) that’s no older than 6-months.
– A medical report of your blood type (this can be done at any medical lab).
– Proof of residence and an application form for a new ID (to be produce at your local moukhtar).
3. Submitting the papers.
Head to the Ministry of Interior (facing Sanayeh park) during their working hours and submit all your paperwork, get fingerprinted, and get your photo taken for your replacement ID card.
4. Wish on it.
Hopefully you’ll have a smooth process (this is highly unlikely because, obviously), and you’ll be able to have your brand new ID card in no time (which is usually a couple of months).
