8 International Films You Didn’t Know Were Shot In Lebanon

Lebanon is well known for many things, from our amazing food to our beautiful views, but one thing you may not know about Lebanon is that back in the day, we used to be a hub for movie sets. Lebanon’s lax tax laws and eclectic terrains allowed for the making of all kinds of films from all over the world. Here are some international films you didn’t know were shot in Lebanon, from 1965 to 2015.


1. 24 Hours To Kill – 1965



24 Hours to Kill is a British/German film shot in Beirut during its golden era. The plot of the film is about a flight that lands in Beirut on its way to Athens due to technical issues, but one of the flight attendants is worried because he is the target of a local militia.


2. Agent 505: Death Trap In Beirut – 1966



This is a German/French/Italian film that is about a hero who is trying to save Beirut from “The Sheikh”, a criminal who is planning to bomb the city with radioactive mercury.


3. Super Bitch – 1973



This Italian film is a about an undercover cop who is trying to infiltrate a drug cartel. This is a terrible movie in the best way imaginable.


4. The Message – 1977



The Message is a famous Islamic film by Moustafa Akkad produced by Filmco International Productions Inc., an international film production company. The film is about the prophet Mohammad, and it stars Anthony Quinn, and was nominated for an Oscar at the 50th Academy Awards.


5. Death of a Princess – 1980



This British documentary/drama is set in Saudi Arabia and based on the story of a Saudi princess and her lover who was stoned to death because of adultery.


6. Carlos – 2010



This 2010 French/German biographical film is based on the life story of Venezuelan revolutionary Carlos the Jackal. The film has won a Golden Globe as well as a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award.


7. Circumstance – 2011



This French/Iranian/American film tells the story of a wealthy teenager and her orphan best friend who experiment with underground parties, drugs, and sex in Tehran, while her brother becomes more and more obsessed with her friend.


8. Phantom – 2015



This is an Indian film directed by Kabir Khan about the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai bombings.
