The 8 Kinds Of Tourists You Meet In Lebanon Every Summer

Lebanon has a huge burst in the amount of tourists that visit every summer, as it hosts a wide array of hot spots for different kinds of people with different kinds of interests. This leads to certain kinds of tourists always showing up, and us always having to deal with them.

1. The Arab Tourist

Not to say that all Arabs are this kind of tourist, or that other kinds of tourists can’t be Arab, but this is a very specific kind of tourist. Hear us out: this is the tourist that comes to Lebanon for one reason only, shopping. They go around spending insane amounts of money on fashion and jewelry, and they always smell of misk w anbar.

2. The White Adventurer

This tourist is the one who comes to Lebanon despite all their friends and family warning them about how dangerous this area of the world, but this brave tourist comes to our little Lebanon nonetheless. They are always wide-eyed and are wearing huge backpacks and sandals, often looking up.

3. The Local Wa Laken

This tourist is trying to pass themselves off as a local, although they look nothing like us. Not that we all look the same, but they look nothing like any of us. They always talk in broken fos7a, but there are always telling signs of their foreignness; they stay in motels exclusively in Geitawi or Mar Mikhael, stop at stop signs on the street, and are willing to pay way too much for cabs.

4. The Party Seeker

This tourist has never actually seen Lebanon in the daylight, but knows all its streets and alleys come nighttime. They work hard at hitting every single club in Lebanon, and try all that the country has to offer in the form of drugs and alcohol. In a few months, this tourist will write about the wonder that is BO on their wordpress blog.

5. The Artist

This tourist is here to take in all that Lebanon has to offer in art and culture, and hang out exclusively in art galleries and talk only about their performance art. They don’t see anything outside of theatres and art galleries, but will add every single person who has to do with art on Facebook.

6. The Human Rights Activist

This person is touring Lebanon to be surprised by women not wearing the hijab and the existence of gay people, and are usually brought upon us by one of the many NGOs in the country.

7. The Foodie

This tourist wants to try every wine and every hummus in every restaurant in Lebanon. Often seen drinking 3ara2 and ordering food by pointing at the menu, they will usually be way too excited about the option to have an argeele while sitting inside a restaurant.

8. The AUB Student

This person visits Lebanon because of a semester or to study abroad in AUB, and will tell every one about it. They only talk about their study, and don’t veer anywhere outside of the Hamra/Bliss area.
