17-Year-Old Lebanese Girl Takes On The Seven Summits Challenge
Five camp stations, 5 flights, and 22 days later, 17-year-old Rawan Dakik finally landed in Antarctica to take on her 5th summit, Mount Vinson Massif, standing at 4,892 m.
Bracing the demanding challenge and crippling cold weather, Dakik successfully made her way to the mountain top, lingering on the peak for a good ten minutes to take in her triumph, once again.
A triumph not only for her, but for her home country as well, for the young champion planted the Lebanese flag and a message of peace at every peak she climbed.
So far, Dakik has made her way over the peaks of Kilimanjaro (5,895m) in Tanzania, Elbrus (5,642m) in Russia, Aconcagua (6,962m) in Argentine, and Carstensz Pyramid (4,884 m) in Indonesia, leaving a piece of home at every single one. Impressive, we know.
According to her mother, Dakik is one of the youngest mountain trekkers to take on the seven summits yet. When she’s not traveling around the globe, hopping from one continent to another and climbing impossible mountain peaks, the young girl pursues her education, an area in which she excels as well.
To stay in shape, her weekends consist of trekking practice, where she regularly climbs Lebanese peaks that have witnessed her enduring and challenging spirit first-hand.
Leaving a 6-month window between every peak, Dakik’s next challenge awaits her on the 14th of June, when she will be climbing one of the world’s most challenging summits, Mount Denali of Alaska, leaving the last and final Mount Everest summit remaining, before she completes the challenge of the seven summits.
Dakik returns home today. Welcome home, Rawan – you’ve made us oh so proud!
