Journalist Adam Chamseddine Summoned For Questioning Over Facebook Post
Al-Jadeed reporter and correspondent Adam Chamseddine revealed through a Facebook post earlier this week that he had been summoned for questioning by the military court, supposedly due to a status he had posted on his personal Facebook account months ago.
The status in mention discusses the arrest of a Syrian man who was working as a tattoo artist back in October 2018. The man was picked up by State Security, who released his name and publicized the fact that he was infected with AIDS. Shortly thereafter, they released a follow-up statement saying that his arrest was due to his working without a license.
Chamseddine took to his personal Facebook account to comment on the arrest itself and the handling of this case, citing the release of the suspect’s personal information and medical history as unethical and jarring, and stating that the “sensationalized topic” robbed this man of any presumption of innocence.
After Chamseddine’s summoning, activists, supporters, and prominent figures took to social media to support him and his freedom of expression using the hashtag #متضامن_مع_آدم.
