Lebanese Man Who Shot His Wife 17 Times Finally Sentenced

Sarah Al Amine. Her name may have slipped you by as one of the countless Lebanese women who fell victim to unjust domestic violence laws and a lack of any form of protection.

On May 19 of 2015, Al Amine was shot to death by her husband, Ali al-Zein, who fired as many as 20 bullets into her body right in front of her children, before fleeing their home.

One month prior to the murder, Al Amine had filed domestic violence charges against her husband, who consequently kicked her out of the house then took her life when she came back to see her kids.

But today we report that Al Amine has finally been put to rest.

The Criminal Court of Mount Lebanon, headed by the honorable Judge Elie Helou issued a ruling, sentencing al-Zein to 25 years in prison, hard labor, and a fine of 150 million LL to be paid to the deceased’s family after he was found guilty of her murder.

While this is a win for Al Amin’s memory, we cannot forget the likes of Roula Yaacoub, Roqaya Monzer, Manal Assi, and many other women who we have failed to protect, both as a government and as a people.
