Here’s Where To Take Your Out-Of-Town Friends When They Visit Beirut

Foreign friends coming into town? Here are some of the best places to take them so they can see for themselves what is dubbed as one of the oldest cities of the world.

1. Go back in time at the Roman Baths

Amaze your out-of-town friends with a stunning first impression of Beirut. You can show them the mesmerizing view of the ruins of the Roman baths located in the middle of the city. If you want to bring the instant feel of both the old and the new in co-existence, you can definitely bring your friends here for a unique experience. Because as you and your friends marvel at this historical site and the amazing Roman engineering behind it, you will realize that it is surrounded by new buildings and structures within busy downtown.

2. Eat and drink your heart out in Mar Mikhael

A visit from out-of-town peers won’t be complete without a fun night out in the lively and bustling Mar Mikhael. Experience one of the more beautiful parts of Beirut especially when the sun’s out and the night is still young. Whether you prefer to dine, drink coffee, or indulge over cocktails, this vibrant spot in the city of Beirut is the perfect place to bond with friends.

3. Stroll along the Corniche

Experience the beauty and wonder of the Beirut coastline, best enjoyed along the corniche. You can even opt to ride a bicycle and follow the path to have a glimpse of other popular attractions such as the Raouche neighborhood and the Pigeons’ Rocks. Prepare for a breathtaking view during sunset with the sun shining in all its glory against the city skyline.

5. Take a relaxing walk with a boat view at Zaitunay Bay

If you and your friends feel like going for a quiet and relaxing walk, head to Zaitunay Bay. Watching the boats and yachts anchored at the marina while dining at one of the upscale restaurants is a great lasting impression of Beirut for your friends.

6. Learn about Beirut’s war history at Beit Beirut

Beirut is a war-torn city and remnants of the ugly truth of war are left in different parts of the city. To truly know Beirut, it is important to get a glimpse of its challenging past. Beit Beirut is a museum and cultural center that celebrates the history of Beirut, particularly the civil war. It is located in a building called the Yellow House. The exteriors of this shell-shocked building were left untouched as a reminder of the destruction that the war caused. Although there are posted opening times, the museum itself only opens on special events and you’ll be lucky to get a chance to have a walk around inside. Don’t let this prevent you from driving by or viewing the building from the outside.

7. Marvel at the Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque

While the outside of this mosque is stunning in itself, a quick look inside is an even better treat for the eyes. Go in and spend a good hour marveling at the breathtaking beauty, spirituality, and serenity.
