Lebanese Protestors Set Up “Trains” In Different Parts Of The City
If there’s one thing that this revolution has shown, it’s that there is truly no end to Lebanese people’s creativity and due diligence.
Yesterday night, protestors set up “creative interventions” across different parts of the city, screening footage of the trains that were once up and running in Lebanon.
Hamra, Mar Mikhael, Bourj Hammoud, and Sassine all witnessed a glimpse of what our transportation system would have been like, had the trains been brought back to life.
While this is all very funny, it is also a very essential element of corruption to tackle.
Lebanon’s railway system was halted during the Civil War and has been non-functional ever since. But despite the upsetting neglect of the Lebanese railway system, the government still funds a “railway transport department”. In other words, they pay for all those rusty trains to stay put, and guess whose money they use.
