Lebanese Man Arrested For Blackmailing Female Student

After receiving a complaint from a university student who was being threatened and blackmailed, the Cyber Crimes Bureau in Beirut was able to identify the culprit.

On 26th of November 2019, an unnamed Lebanese male was arrested on Bliss Street in Hamra and interrogated over allegations of extortion and blackmail. The 23-year old confessed to having illegally obtained the plaintiff’s passwords, stealing private photos and videos that she had kept, and creating a fake an account on Instagram to publish them for blackmail.

Blackmail and such crimes can cause devastating financial and social consequences, subjecting the victim to intense psychological trauma.
