Beirut Marathon Association Is Closing Down Until Further Notice

In a heartfelt video shared to their official Facebook page, Beirut Marathon Association has announced that it will be closing down until further notice.

In the video, the team behind Beirut Marathon Association are filmed clearing out their offices as they share a few touching thoughts on the situation.

“It’s only a phase, we’re going through it, we’ll get over it,” says one team member.

The Beirut Marathon Association was founded in 2003, and has since been organizing events, fundraisers, and marathons that have placed Lebanon on the international sports map for 17 years now.

Following the October 17 events in Lebanon, the association cancelled the Beirut Marathon for 2019, and announced that the 17th edition of the event will take place on November 8, 2020 instead.

But nearly one month ago, they announced that they will suspending all activities “due to the crisis caused by the combined effects of the economic crisis followed by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

With matters only getting worse in the country, it seems they have come to the decision to close down for now.

“It’s hard to say goodbye, but this is a see you later…,” read the caption. “Until we meet again!”
