Lebanese Activist Group Files Lawsuit Against BDL Governor Riad Saleme

What a turn of events.

Editorial Purpose: We are sharing this piece of content to keep you in the loop on the latest happenings in the country.

According to the National News Agency, Lebanese activist group “الشعب يريد اصلاح النظام” has filed a lawsuit against Central Bank Governor Riad Saleme, represented by lawyers Haitham Ezzo, Hassan Bazzi, Jad Tohmeh, Joseph Wanis, Pierre Gemayel, Francoise Kamel, Bassel Abbas, and journalist Joey Haddad.

The trial has been scheduled for October 14, 2020 by Judge Lara Abdel Samad, during which the governor will be brought in for allegedly violating Articles 319, 320, 359, 360, 363, and 373 of the Lebanese Penal Code.

Could this be the beginning of legal accountability in Lebanon? Or will it be swept under the rug like everything else?
