Lebanese Blogger/YouTuber Justifies Sexual Harassment Against Women In Bikinis
Another day, another man blaming sexual harassment on women.
Self-proclaimed Lebanese “blogger”, “journalist”, and “TV/Radio/YouTube presenter” (and we do use these terms extremely loosely) Joe Bou Ghazaly has decided to lend his online platform to shaming women for wearing bikinis and justifying sexual harassment against them.
Joe Abou Ghazali’s latest video entices people to sexually harass women for posting pics on the beach. This creature has a huge following, some are young boys. pic.twitter.com/HIJiE2wqvL
In a recent episode of his YouTube show, during which he shames and criticizes women (namely celebrities and public figures) for pretty much everything they do, the presenter decided to kick off a lecture about sexual harassment by referencing the viral campaign that launched in Egypt when hundreds of women came forward to speak out against Ahmed Bassam Zaki, an alleged serial sexual predator.
But rather than give a voice to the women, Joe decided to nitpick on Rania Youssef, an Egyptian actress deemed “controversial” for simply standing up for herself.
He criticized Youssef for exposing men who have harassed her, justifying his shit stance by saying “menfarje ktir eshya w men oul please ma tet-harasho fiye” essentially shaming her for the way she dresses and blaming her for “attracting” harassers.
He then went on to criticize Egyptian singer Ruby for posting a picture of herself in a swimsuit and a cover-up, re-emphasizing his (shit) point that women who pose in bikinis should not complain about harassment.
That’s not even the worst part. He then says “give us nice pictures so we can harass you,” body-shaming women and explicitly expressing his readiness for sexual harassment.
We don’t entirely understand why anyone would want to watch his “show” anyway, but in the unfortunate incident that people do decide to torture their eyes with such “entertainment”, does he not realize the influence of his toxic and criminal opinion?
For years, women have been fighting relentlessly to overturn the narrative that blames harassment on the victim, only for a dumb presenter to reinforce it because he thinks he’s funny. He is not.
