RIP Louay Ismail: First Lebanese Doctor Dies From Coronavirus
A fallen hero.
A young Lebanese doctor named Louay Ismail has unfortunately passed away after contracting the coronavirus from a patient he was treating, making him the first physician to die from the disease in Lebanon.
Dr. Ismail was 32 years old with no prior medical conditions. He was healthy and full of life, and more than willing to put himself at risk to fight at the frontline of the battle with the disease and help save others.
He worked at the Lebanese-Italian Hospital in the Southern city of Tyre, where he became infected with the disease while “carrying out his medical and humanitarian duty,” according to the National News Agency.
Dr. Firass Abiad, manager of the Rafik Hariri University Hospital, took to his Twitter account to mourn Dr. Ismail.
This comes as the coronavirus pandemic reaches an all-time high since it was first detected in Lebanon back in February. With lockdown measures eased and the airport fully functioning again, the virus is spreading among expats and locals alike, leading to a significant increase in the number of cases.
Now more than ever, it is essential that you adhere to safety measures, for your health and that of your loved ones. Stay safe!
