LibanPost Issues Stamp Commemorating Beirut Port Blast

The national post office of Lebanon LibanPost has recently issued a new stamp to commemorate the Beirut port blast and help rebuild the city.

The stamp features a picture of the pink mushroom cloud from the blast that terrorized Beirut and its people and a face value of 10,000 Lebanese Pounds.

LibanPost announced that all proceeds from buying the stamp will be donated to the Lebanese Civil Defense who have selflessly been at the frontline of every crisis in Lebanon.

While the company had good intentions behind their newly-issued stamp, many people were critical of this move.

Commemorating the blast means looking at it as an event of the past, but the truth is, it’s still very present.

Families and friends are still mourning their loved ones, some people are still in comas, many are permanently scarred, others are still living in homes without windows or doors, and the majority of the population is still traumatized and relives the horror with every new fire. Last but not least, we still have no answers from the investigation and no one was held accountable for August 4, thus people are not ready to turn the page yet.
