International auditing firm Alvarez & Marsal has terminated its contract with the Lebanese government according to Lebanese President Michel Aoun.
The company was hired back in July to perform a forensic audit on the Central Bank and determine the whereabouts of huge sums of money that are currently unaccounted for, but hit a roadblock when
BDL refused to hand over required documents.
The Central Bank was then given a
3-month extension to pass over all necessary information, but still refused citing “bank secrecy laws” that were negated by several legal experts and the Minister of Justice in the caretaker government herself, Marie-Claude Najm.
Alvarez & Marsal will still be paid $200,000 for the work they’ve done so far. More of our money down the drain for no good reason and no answers at all!
