Minister of Interior To Be Investigated For Claim About Corrupt Judges In Lebanon

The minister of interior in Lebanon’s caretaker government Mohammad Fehmi has been summoned for questioning by lead prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat over a claim he made about corrupt judges in the country.

In a televised interview with “Sar El Waet”, Fehmi claimed that 95% of judges in Lebanon are corrupt.

His statement came after a trainee lawyer was beaten up by security forces for violating the even/odd license plate rule. The ISF then responded with a video showing that the lawyer had thrown in the first punch.

Fehmi’s statement angered Lebanon’s judicial system. In response, the Beirut and Tripoli Bar Associations called on the minister to resign, and announced a strike to be held today in protest of the Interior Ministry’s practices.

TV host Marcel Ghanem will also be called in for the investigation to hear his testimony as he had been interviewing the minister on the show.
