Lebanon Changes Phone Code From 0 to 2 For Landlines

The Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunications announced this morning that local landline codes would be shifted from 0x (01, 04, 05, 06, etc.) to 2x (21, 24, 25, 26, etc.).

The rule will apply to all new numbers on the grid, and the Ministry will work on migrating all the existing numbers to reflect the new codes.

To clarify, this means that, once migrated, our office phone number will no longer be 01 750 985, rather 21 750 985. And people calling in from abroad will have to dial +961 21 750985.

Slightly confusing. The Ministry has not explicity expressed a reason for this change.

Get ready to do a whole lot of updating and rewiring!
