Lebanon’s vaccination campaign is set to begin this Sunday, February 14th according to caretaker PM Hassan Diab’s press office.
The first batch of the Pfizer vaccine is set to arrive on Saturday, and vaccination will begin shortly thereafter. Front liners and healthcare workers are to receive the vaccine first.
In the past ten days, only 4.5% of the Lebanese population registered to take the vaccine on the designated platform, says Dr. Firas Abiad – CEO of Beirut’s governmental hospital. In order to reach community immunity, 80% of the Lebanese population must be vaccinated, which will take around 8 to 9 months.
Despite the current lockdown, Lebanon’s COVID-19 cases and death rates are still alarming, ranking Lebanon at number nine among the countries most affected by the virus in the Middle East.
