Samer Khouzami is a Lebanese makeup artist who has recently been getting a lot of attention for unapologetically being himself. Khouzami, who has had a career as a successful make up artist for over a decade now, turned heads when people were outraged by one of his Instagram posts in which he is seen wearing a pair of high heels.
During his 13 year long career, Khouzami became a household name as a high-end makeup brand and he helped Lebanese freelance makeup artists get back on their feet during the pandemic.
Safe to say, none of that got media coverage – it’s the high heels that broke the Arab internet. In response to the unwarranted opinions and the sheer amount of hate that flooded his social media, Khouzami replied stating that he has decided to take off the mask that society forced him to wear. He followed that post with a behind the scenes look of him putting his drag on, and later revealing the abuse he had endured.
While many may think that Samer took the risk of losing followers and customers, it is clear that at 34 years old, he has decided to live his truth publicly. The love he got from like-minded people and the self-satisfaction is the ultimate reward.
