MTV’s Animations Of August 4 Victims Spark Anger, Controversy
What MTV thought would be an effective and heartwarming dramatization of the August 4 explosion quickly turned into a disturbing and ethically questionable deep fake video of the blast victims.
Yesterday, local news channel MTV released a video showing animated renditions of a couple of August 4 victims with voice over, showing them expressing their anger towards the ruling class and asking for justice. At the end of the video, it is made clear that this was done with the consent of the families of the victims, but many still found it distasteful. Here were some reactions:
According to the video, the victim’s families approved of the so called production, but for what reason?
This approach has caused major noise on Twitter, where users expressed their anger and the insensitivity of the news station, that clearly did not study the repercussions of the release.
