As September welcomes a new academic year and the education sector is revived once again despite horrific circumstances, the Primary Education Association in Lebanon announced a nationwide “day of rage” on Tuesday, September 7th.

Public school teachers have decided to stage a sit-in in front of the Ministry of Education to demand an increase in teachers’ salaries and transportation allowance amid a deepening crisis. The public sector has taken a significant number of blows as it continues to face many hurdles, yet the government remains unfazed.

While the reopening of schools poses a great health hazard due to the surging COVID-19 cases, the bigger concern is how exactly students and faculty are expected to secure fuel in order to attend classes.
