Municipality of Salhiye Issues Sexist Wage Decision

A recent decision issued by the Municipality of Salhiye in southern Lebanon showcases the sexist wage gap between male and female workers responsible for olive harvesting.

According to Daraj Media, male workers will receive a daily fee of 80,000LBP, while female workers will be receiving only 60,000LBP.

The wage gap between men and women in Lebanon remains a pressing matter, and many instances of discriminatory behavior towards women are overlooked. Women are discriminated against in all non-pink collar professions, as they are deemed unsuitable for predominantly male fields.

It’s 2021 and we still have to talk about these issues.
