Lebanese Priest Mansour Labaki Charged With Rape And Sexual Assault Of Children
On Monday November 8th, the trial of the notorious Lebanese priest Mansour Labaki was held in absentia in the French commune of Caen. Labaki was tried on charges of rape and the sexual abuse of three children that reportedly took place at an orphanage he ran from 1991 to 1998 in Calvados near Caen.
The 81-year old did not attend the trial, and still lives in Lebanon according to reports. Despite the many claims raised against him, the Lebanese state refused to extradite him.
CNN producer Dalal Mawad revealed that Labaki was charged for rape and sexual assault.
Mawad had previously reported on the case, interviewing Labaki’s niece Celeste Akiki who testified against him in yesterday’s trial.
Back in 2013, the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith sentenced the priest to a “life of penitence” after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting the three minors. While we are all for penitence, we are eager to see him in a prison cell.
Unfortunately, despite the claims raised against him, Labaki is still defended by many and praised as a man of god.
We hope he is punished to the fullest extent of the law, and lives out his final years feeling the same fear he instilled in those children.
